Nearly 150 concerned women came together at Juneau’s Hangar on the Wharf on January 16 to kick off the Juneau’s 100 Women Who Care first quarterly charitable giving event.

Kate Troll spoke for Renewable Juneau’s Carbon Offset Fund, ironically enough, in direct competition with her daughter who was speaking in support of the Alaska Folk Festival. Kate, Renewable Juneau’s newest board member, won the crowd and the vote, with an award of over $15,000 to the
Juneau Carbon Offset Fund! Read the full blog post here!

Thanks and appreciation to the Juneau Carbon Offset program for decreasing Juneau’s fossil fuel consumption while providing such a meaningful benefit to local residents! The work you are doing is so amazing. Thank you!!

– Lillian Petershoare, applicant

“First! I can’t believe that the Juneau Carbon Offset Fund and Renewable Juneau chose me as the first recipient of renewable energy heating through their carbon offset program! No more oil, no more oil bills, no more diesel smell. Clean, dry, quiet, warm, and I’m told, at half the monthly cost! I just survived cancer treatment and as a retired and single woman with limited income, this clean energy addition to my 1904 Douglas home takes a huge weight off my shoulders. Thank you Renewable Juneau! I actually feel like I’m now living in a real home! My feet are warm!”

– Jan Gonce, first heat pump recipient of the Juneau Carbon Offset Fund

I am thrilled to know that Renewable Juneau has created the Juneau Carbon Offset Fund. Renewable Juneau is a local leader in climate and renewable energy action and I have the utmost respect for all that they do and accomplish. With their offset program, I am able to shrink my carbon footprint with action right here at home. This is a tremendous gift to the many in Alaska’s capital city who seek to balance their impacts as well as for those who wish to help those in need.

– Margaret Symons, Juneau resident for 24 years

The Juneau Carbon offset fund represents just one more major accomplishment of Renewable Juneau. My wife and I have bought carbon offsets for our family for a few years now. Knowing that there is a local option, one that reinvests our money right here at home, locks in our decision to switch. While we still need to work harder to lower our household carbon footprint, the Juneau Carbon Offset Fund helps us balance our impacts while we work to reduce our personal dependence on oil.
